Commission a walking app

How does it work?

Step one - Book a phone call

Writing copy, editing images and app building are the second best thing about a One from the Track project. The best is being out in the Downs, walking the Weald, or strolling by the Sussex and Hampshire seafronts.

I would love to get to know the place you know. To learn about your small business or rural area, and see if we can work to share that knowledge with others. Book a phone call to find out if a One for the Track walking app is right for you.

Step Two - An on site consultation

Once we have discussed what you are looking for, and you have seen an example of a One from the Track app, you will have a good idea of whether we can meet your needs. If so, the best part of my job begins: A visit to you and the place you know well.

I will bring a notebook and camera. Ideally we will get out and explore the walk you have in mind. There is a single fee for this visit (Tier A of the pricing structure) but no commitment at this stage.

Step Three - Commission the app

If after my first visit you would like to commission a One from the Track app, I will already have what I need to get started. Now begins the making of the app (Tier B of the pricing structure). I write the copy, take the photos - you may have text and images in mind already - arrange and record audio interviews (if required) and build the app online. This will likely involve further visits to your area, as the walking route is finalised.

Bear in mind that the reason we separate Tier B from Tier C in the pricing structure is to protect One from the Track from the (very small) risk Apple or Google won’t host the app. Unlikely as it is, I want to be upfront about this risk!

Step four - Deploy!

Your bespoke walking app is deployed to the App Store and Google Play. This is Tier C of the pricing structure.

Once Apple and Google agree to host it, your walking app is good to go. One from the Track apps are designed to be free to users, with no login or data collection and few automated calls to an internet ‘back end’ or database. This keeps them reliable in rural settings, and easily accessible to your users.

We will create a QR code that can be printed in leaflets, shared online, or placed on a sign or in a window. Visitors will scan it with their phones to access your app and get exploring.

Step Five - (one of two options)

There is one final decision. Would you like One from the Track to continue to monitor your walking app? For example, if Apple updates their mobile operating system in six months time, a change to the app may be required to keep it functioning properly. For ongoing maintenance there is a monthly fee, paid annually (Tier D).

We build, deploy and update our apps using the software FlutterFlow. Your other option (Tier E) is to buy-out the app’s full code. We’ll help set you up with your own FlutterFlow account and use the code - plus text, image and audio content - to duplicate the app. You can maintain your app from there.

You may of course choose to start with the first option, and move to the second at a later date.

Either way, we can’t wait to hear from you!
